Block 2 is Felton Road's most celebrated Chardonnay vineyard, planted in 1991 on the Bannockburn terraces of Central Otago, and it has quietly become one of the most compelling arguments for why this corner of New Zealand deserves to be taken seriously for white wine.

The vines are old enough to give concentration without effort, and the approach in the winery — whole-bunch pressing, wild fermentation, minimal sulphur — keeps everything honest and precise. The result is a Chardonnay that sits closer to Chablis grand cru in spirit than to anything from the New World: tightly wound, mineral-driven, and built with genuine tension.

OUR GROWERS

Felton Road

Felton Road was established in 1992 by Stewart Elms and has been managed since 2000 by the quietly brilliant Nigel Greening, whose philosophy is refreshingly simple: farm as cleanly as possible, intervene as little as possible. The estate is certified biodynamic and has been fully organic for many years. It is widely regarded as Central Otago's benchmark producer, particularly for Pinot Noir, though its Chardonnays deserve equal attention.
