Mas de Daumas Gassac, Rouge, 2020
- Red Still
- Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Tannat
- Organic
Famous for its Grands Vins, the Mas de Daumas Gassac has been a family owned vineyard for more than 40 years and belongs to the Guibert family.
It is set in a wild and enchanting valley, close the magnificent romanesque abbey of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert. 50 hectares of a deep, well drained soil, free from any chemical fertilisers.
It is this fabulous terroir, similar to the best parts of Burgundy, that Henri Enjalbert, the great Professor of Geology at Bordeaux university, rediscovered in the 1970’s.
The 2020 Rouge is set to be a towering achievement for the Domaine. A vintage characterised by serene weather throughout the year, followed by a fine, warm summer leading right up to harvest, the Guiberts are already comparing the wine to the glorious 2000, with silky tannins, perfect balance and tremendous aging potential. Given last year's outing scored 17.5+ points from Jancis Robinson, we're expecting even bigger things for the 2020!
Drinking window: 2023 - 2035
What the critics say:
"The newest vintage of this classic Languedoc red is a solid effort. The 2020 IGP Saint Guilhem le Desert is 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, with no more than 6% of any other single grape variety present. Naturally, cassis elements lead the way, backed by black cherries and herbal notes, plus a subtle, barely noticeable layer of cedar tying everything together. It's medium to full-bodied, streamlined and smooth in feel, with a long, silky, elegant finish."
