Les Chalumeaux sits at the northern end of Puligny-Montrachet, bordering Meursault, and it has a character to match that geography: a little broader and richer than the more southerly Puligny premiers crus, yet with all the chalky, laser-sharp precision the village is famous for.

Domaine de Montille's version is Chardonnay at its most serious and most self-contained — tightly wound in youth, built on natural acidity and mineral grip rather than oak or weight, and very much on its own schedule.
