Santenay 'Les Champs Claude', Domaine Benoit Girardin, 2022

Santenay sits at the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune, and for years it was the village everyone drove through on the way somewhere more famous. That's changing, and wines like this from Benoît Girardin are a big part of why. Les Champs Claude is a lieu-dit producing Pinot Noir that has the cool, stony character this corner of Burgundy does so well — red cherry, a whisper of woodland floor, and a clean mineral spine that keeps everything honest and precise.

The 2022 vintage gave Burgundy generous sunshine without the heat stress of 2020 or 2019, and the result here is a wine with lovely freshness alongside the ripe, plush fruit the year is known for.
