Santenay doesn't get the headlines of its neighbours Chassagne and Puligny, but La Maladière is one of the appellation's most serious premiers crus — a south-facing slope on Bathonian limestone that reliably produces Pinot Noir with both grip and grace.

Domaine Benoit Girardin's vieilles vignes bottling adds another layer: older vines reaching deeper, giving the wine a concentration and composure that younger vines simply can't manufacture.
