The 2021 Saumur Rouge ‘Les Chapaudaises’ from Domaine Guiberteau is a seriously elegant expression of Loire Valley Cabernet Franc. Bright, lifted aromas of redcurrant, cranberry, and just a hint of graphite lead into a silky, medium-bodied palate. There’s a lovely tension here—vibrant acidity balanced by fine, chalky tannins and pure, juicy fruit. It’s fresh, precise, and quietly complex, with that signature Guiberteau mineral backbone.
This is the kind of red that feels equally at home with a roast chicken or a casual charcuterie board, and it’ll age beautifully if you’ve got the patience.
Romain Guiberteau is a very ambitious young producer, having previously worked with Nady Foucault at Clos Rougeard and states “An internship with Clos Rougeard is an internship for life.” There is no better mentor than Nady; the progress made by Romain is stupefying.
Optimal drinking window: Now - 2035

What the critics say:
"In 2021, the Guiberteau family lost 40% of the crop of this cuvée due to frost. Evoking aromas of iris, peony, dark wild berries, spices and licorice, the 2021 Les Chapaulaises is medium-bodied, perfectly balanced, seamless and satiny with a fleshy core of fruit and a gentle austerity in the finish. Matured only in used barrels due to frost, this wine is approachable now but can evolve gracefully."
