Savigny-lès-Beaune doesn't always get the attention it deserves; it sits in the shadow of Pommard and Volnay, but the Aux Vergelesses premier cru is one of the appellation's most compelling arguments for a second look. It runs along the border with Pernand-Vergelesses, and that shared geology gives it a stony, iron-edged character that sets it apart from the softer, more approachable wines lower on the slope. Jane Eyre's version from 2021 is exactly the kind of Burgundy that rewards patience: still a touch reticent at the moment, but the architecture is there — fine tannins, precise acidity, and real depth of fruit.
2021 was a tricky but ultimately rewarding vintage across the Côte de Beaune, with low yields and high natural acidity producing wines of real elegance and age-worthiness. Jane's track record — she holds two stars from the RVF — means this is in very safe hands.
