Torbreck's 2021 Steading Blanc is a brilliant example of just how good white Rhône blends can be when grown in the Barossa valley. Made from Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier, it’s a beautifully textured, expressive wine that balances richness with real freshness.
On the nose, you’ll find ripe stone fruits, citrus peel, white flowers, and a hint of spice. The palate follows through with generous flavour, creamy texture, and a clean, mineral-driven finish. It’s layered and food-friendly, but not heavy - think roast chicken, seafood in buttery sauces, or even mildly spiced dishes.
The Steading is sourced entirely from the Estate's Descendant Vineyard on Roennfeldt Road. Torbreck is best known for their bold reds but this white is a bit of a standout: elegant, versatile, and quietly complex.
What the critics say:
"My god. Stylistically, there is a chasm between the reds and whites at Torbreck. The 2021 The Steading Blanc is pristine (the reds are also pristine; however, the abundant tannin and concentrated fruit require different descriptors), with moderate alcohol and bright acidity laced throughout. Salted pineapple lumps, honeydew melon, white flowers, summer apricot and green apples define the fruit in the mouth, while the wine is shaped by fine but firm phenolics through the finish. This is not hedonistic but textbook. Lovely."
