Vougeot Premier Cru, Les Petits Vougeots, Domaine Christian Clerget, 2020

A relatively new but very exciting domaine for Honest Grapes, reviews of previous vintages from the 6ha fully organic Domaine Christian Clerget are sparse, as are profiles of Christian and wife Isabelle – now joined by daughter Justine, however the critical reception for 2019 & 2020 has been fulsome so now is the time to discover these incredible, thought-provoking wines!

“Clear crisp full purple. Some reduction here which is apparently typical of their Petits Vougeots at the end of elevage. Deep red fruit beginning to push up, plums and raspberries. A little spice, a little pepper, a lot of fruit. Just inside the upper limits of ripeness. Very long finish here. “An elegant, pure and airy nose freely expresses the blend of red and dark berries, violet, lavender and rose petal. A touch of earth can be found on the delicious and bright middle weight flavors that exude an appealing minerality on the sappy finish that tightens up noticeably.
