As ever, de Montille navigated the challenges of the 2024 vintage with calm precision: Picking was about timing rather than bravery, extraction was handled with restraint, and the results speak clearly of site rather than cellar.  It's a terrific set of wines across both colours, among the best we tasted from the vintage. Quite simply, this remains one of the most serious and intellectually satisfying domaines in the Côte de Beaune, and a benchmark for transparent, age-worthy Burgundy.

News from Montille surrounds the complex round of land transactions this year as they have sold two Nuit-Saint-Georges 1er Crus ‘Aux Julien’ and ‘Aux Thorey’ vineyards to Domaine Dujac, holdings in Monthélie to Alex Moreau, and two hectares of Puligny-Montrachet Clos du Château to Bouchard Père & Fils. While acquiring new holdings in Meursault (‘Les Clous’ and ‘1er Cru Genevrières’) which they’ve just started to replant, along with a healthy new holding of Beaune ‘Sur Grèves’ from Bouchard.

At first pleasantly surprised and then genuinely enthusiastic. I had quite liked the whites in 2021 but there is much more character to the 2024s
Jasper Morris on Burgundy 2024 Whites

Also out yesterday, Neal Martins Burgundy 2024 report has suggested that “2024 is an endlessly fascinating vintage”. Not without challenges but he has said that the overall quality of Whites slightly edges the Reds across both Cotes and “Twenty-four is a potentially great year for this appellation” in Puligny-Montrachet, while saying Chassagne-Montrachet have a plethora of winemakers at the top of their game.

This is our 5th year of Kosher winemaking at Domaine de Montille, and the first in which Jasper Morris and Neal Martin have reviewed the wines. Click on to the wines to find out more, but worth noting is Neal Martin awarding the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Les Chalumeaux' 91-93 points, the same score as the ‘Cailleret’, saying “This is a classy offering that should end up landing at the top of my banded score”.
