Luca's Festive French Case

Six bottles to see you through Christmas, from the first glass of fizz to the last of the main course. There’s a bit of everything here: sparkling wine for the celebrations, crisp whites for seafood and starters, a characterful Vouvray for the table, and three very different reds for the main event and whatever comes afterwards.

First up, Domaine Amélie et Charles Sparr’s Crémant d’Alsace ‘Celebration’ NV. All the festive fizz you need without opening the Champagne just yet. Fresh orchard fruit, citrus and a fine, lively mousse make it a natural with smoked salmon, canapés or simply getting everyone into the Christmas spirit.

Domaine Séguinot-Bordet’s Chablis 2025 brings the freshness. Expect crisp apple, lemon and that classic mineral edge, making it a good call for oysters, prawns, smoked fish or the lighter starters.

Alongside it, Domaine Vigneau-Chevreau’s Vouvray Sec Sélection 2024 offers a different take on Chenin Blanc: orchard fruit, a little floral character and bright acidity, with enough texture to handle richer fish dishes, pork or a good spread of cheeses.

When it comes to the reds, we start in Beaujolais with Famille Vincent’s Morgon ‘Les Charmes Fuisse’ 2021 from Château-Fuissé. Gamay at its more serious end, with juicy dark cherry, red berries and a savoury streak. Serve it with turkey, duck or the trimmings; a little chill won't hurt, either.

Château Saint-Roch’s Lirac Cuvée Confidentielle Rouge 2023 takes us to the southern Rhône, where Grenache-led fruit, warming spice and a generous Mediterranean feel make it a fine match for roast lamb, beef or a hearty winter stew.

Finally, Château Cissac 2019 brings us back to the Médoc. Classic Bordeaux, with Cabernet-led blackcurrant fruit, cedar, tobacco and firm but polished tannins.
