Founded over a hundred years ago, Domaine Georges Lignier is a prestigious estate with exceptional vineyard holdings in and around Morey-Saint-Denis.
We’ve been avid followers of Lignier’s wines for years, which are amongst some of the most attractively priced in the Cote d’Or! The domaine boasts significant parcels of renowned Grand Cru vineyards, including the largest proprietorship of the Clos Saint-Denis at 1.49 hectares. They also control over a hectare of the Clos de la Roche Grand Cru and own a parcel of Bonnes Mares Grand Cru in Chambolle Musigny.
The current leader of the domaine is our good friend Benoit Stehly, nephew of Georges Lignier. Benoit worked alongside his uncle for ten years before taking over both the vineyard and cellar operations in 2008. The family tradition continues as Domaine Georges Lignier has remained a family-owned estate for over a century.
The Wine
Domaine Georges Lignier is known for producing exceptional wines from their prestigious vineyard holdings. Their vineyards include renowned Grand Cru sites such as Clos Saint-Denis, Clos de la Roche, and Bonnes Mares. Under the leadership of Benoit Stehly, the estate follows an integrated winemaking policy and has increased its bottling capacity.
Outside of the superb value village wines, we love club favourite MSD 1er Cru “Clos des Ormes”, which Benoit maintains in good vintages outperforms neighbouring Grand Cru Latricieres-Chambertin.
The wines from Domaine Georges Lignier reflect the rich terroir of Morey-Saint-Denis and its surrounding areas. With a long-standing commitment to quality and family tradition, the domaine produces wines that showcase the character and potential of these esteemed vineyards.
Their wines are highly regarded and sought after by Burgundy enthusiasts for their complexity, finesse, and ability to express the unique characteristics of the terroir.
