During one of our Wine Therapy sessions we were joined by Timo Mayer live from Australia (7:30am his time!) for a fascinating tasting of his minimal interventionist wines. It was an eye-opening experience, to say the least! These are cool climate wines with great purity, elegance and intensity and they've found a cult following amongst critics and sommeliers. All his wines come from his Bloody Hill vineyard, named for its incredible steepness (making it bloody difficult to work!)
Timo Mayer's winemaking journey started in Germany but found its heart in the Yarra Valley, Australia. His love for the region's terroir and wine culture led him to establish his own winery. At Timo Mayer Wines, it's all about quality over quantity. Timo focuses on small batches of wine, allowing him to pour his heart and soul into each bottle.
Nature knows best, and Timo believes in letting the grapes express themselves. Minimal intervention winemaking means you taste the pure essence of the Yarra Valley in every sip. While Timo creates various wines, his Pinot Noir is particularly renowned. The Yarra Valley's cool climate and Timo's expertise result in Pinot Noirs that are elegant, complex, and utterly delightful.
The Yarra Valley's diverse soils and microclimates provide the canvas for Timo's creations. His wines reflect the region's rich terroir, with each vintage telling a unique story. Timo's dedication to his craft is evident in every aspect of his winemaking. He handcrafts each wine, ensuring that it meets his exacting standards!
