Georges de Latour Private Reserve is Napa royalty — and it knows it. Named after BV's founder, a French-born immigrant who somehow kept the winery alive through Prohibition by producing sacramental wine, this has been one of California's benchmark Cabernets since the 1930s.

Made almost entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the estate's oldest Rutherford blocks, it is the wine that put Napa on the world map and, frankly, still earns its place at that table.

What the critics say:

99/100James Suckling

"The level of refinement and purity is immense, with flashy, perfumed aromas of black currants, olive brine, graphite, violets, mocha and licorice. The palate is in near-perfect balance, with a silken mouthfeel and fine-boned tannins that lead to a refined, pure and succulent finish. This is a truly excellent wine from an excellent vintage. Drink or hold."

98/100Jonathan Cristaldi, Decanter

"The Private Reserve is a full-throttle red in 2023, enticing with its upfront blue-fruit, graham-cracker crust, and lavish toasty-oak richness. Full-bodied and even more generous on the palate, it unspools in waves of blue, black and red fruit, with rich brown spices dusting the gravelly tannins. For all its richness, it carries an energetic lift that is a hallmark of the cool growing season. This is one Private Reserve to cellar for a good long while."

OUR GROWERS

Beaulieu Vineyard

Beaulieu Vineyard was founded in 1900 by Georges de Latour, a Frenchman who had the remarkable foresight — and connections — to survive Prohibition by supplying the Catholic Church with altar wine. The winery's reputation was cemented under the legendary winemaker André Tchelistcheff, who arrived in 1938 and effectively taught a generation of California winemakers what serious Cabernet could look like. Today BV is owned by Treasury Wine Estates, but the Georges de Latour bottling remains the beating heart of the operation.
