Bourgogne Blanc is the entry point into white Burgundy — regional Chardonnay that, in the right hands, punches well above its appellation weight. Jane Eyre is a producer we find genuinely intriguing: a small, independent domaine working with Chardonnay across Burgundy's broader patchwork of vineyards, aiming for wines that are honest, precise, and expressive without the price tag of a village or premier cru.
The 2025 vintage brought excellent conditions across the Côte d'Or — a warm, well-timed growing season that delivered ripe fruit without sacrificing the acidity that makes white Burgundy what it is.
This magnum format is a smart choice for a wine like this — the larger volume slows the evolution and keeps freshness locked in for longer.
Bourgogne Blanc can draw from a wide spread of vineyard sites across the Côte d'Or, Côte Chalonnaise, and Mâconnais. The best of these sit on limestone and clay soils that give white Burgundy its characteristic mineral backbone and cooling structure. At the regional level, altitude and aspect vary considerably, but the underlying Jurassic limestone that runs through the region imparts that stony, chalky quality Chardonnay here absorbs so readily. The 2025 growing season was generous — warm days with enough diurnal shift to keep the acidity bright.
Bourgogne Blanc is the broadest white wine appellation in Burgundy, covering Chardonnay grown across the whole region outside of more specific village or premier cru designations. It sits at the base of Burgundy's quality pyramid but should not be dismissed — many excellent growers declassify fruit here, and the appellation captures the essential character of the region: Chardonnay that is dry, mineral-edged, and restrained rather than showy. Rules require 100% Chardonnay (Aligoté is bottled separately as Bourgogne Aligoté), with minimum alcohol and yield controls that, in practice, serious producers exceed comfortably.
