The 2021 vintage in Tuscany, and particularly in Montalcino, is widely regarded as outstanding for Brunello di Montalcino. A balanced growing season set the tone: a mild spring ensured healthy flowering, summer brought warmth without prolonged extremes, and cooler nights toward harvest preserved acidity and aromatic freshness. Crucially, rainfall arrived at the right moments, avoiding stress and allowing Sangiovese to ripen slowly and evenly. The resulting Brunellos combine ripe, expressive fruit with precision and energy.
This female star-studded cast of winemakers is an admirable family-run operation that dates back to 1989 when life force of the estate, Patrizia, decided she wanted to make Brunello. What was once a deteriorating property is now a winery buzzing with life and passion. Beyond the hectares of land freckled with olive groves are Sangiovese vines dedicated to producing Brunello di Montalcino.
What the critics say:
"Wild herbs and flowery underbrush come together with crushed strawberries and nuances of sweet sage as the 2021 Brunello di Montalcino evolves in the glass. It is refined and polished in feel, beautifully balanced, with textures of pure silk and depths of ripe red berry fruits. A framework of sweet tannins lingers as the 2021 tapers off long and staining yet harmonious. Beautifully done."
"Spicy and fruity wine, full of blood oranges and red cherries. Earthy and floral undertones. Medium-bodied, it shows crisp acidity with crunchy tannins and a slightly lean yet tight finish. Try from 2028."
