Celler Alimara, Estrelles de Batea Negre, 2021

The 2021 Estrelles de Batea Negre from Celler Alimara is a bright, modern red that perfectly captures the easy-drinking charm of Terra Alta.

Don’t be fooled by its pale hue: there’s real depth here. Aromas of cherry and redcurrant lead into juicy, stewed raspberry on the palate, with fine tannins and lively acidity keeping it fresh and balanced. Unashamedly fruit-forward, it’s a versatile red that pairs effortlessly with cheese, pasta, pizza, or stroganoff.

The grapes come from 18-year-old vines on the west bank of the Algars (the only part of Catalonia on that side of the river), and were organically grown and hand-harvested in a race against the weather on 14th September.
