Cornas is Syrah without make-up: no blending partners, no flattery, just the raw granite slopes of the northern Rhône doing what they've always done. Vincent Paris is one of the appellation's finest voices, and the Granit 30, named for the approximate age of the vines and the soil beneath them, is his entry point into that conversation. It's serious without being severe, and even at this early stage there's a vividness to it that suggests the granite is doing exactly what it should: keeping things taut, keeping things alive.
The 2024 vintage across the northern Rhône brought freshness and precision, and this wine wears that well. Expect a core of dark, savoury fruit held together by firm but fine tannins, a savagely long finish, and the kind of mineral backbone that makes you reach for another glass.
What the critics say:
"Juicy raspberry, thyme and rosemary. Not hugely concentrated but lovely freshness and vibrant acidity, with enjoyably edgy Cornas tannins. Very structural, tannic and salty. A bit more tannin than fruit, so this is one for tannin lovers. Fruit was all destemmed, aged in used barrels."
"Tasted blind. The nose shows grilled meat and biltong, herbal and spice notes. A real sense of suppleness on the palate and energy. Bright acidity and a coolness always giving vibrancy. Mid weight in style but with great concentration of fruit, as well. Really well proportioned and supremely elegant."
