Gevrey-Chambertin is Burgundy's most storied village — the place that gives you Chambertin itself, the vineyard Napoleon reputedly demanded at every meal. Jane Eyre's Gevrey lands in the most serious red wine commune on the Côte de Nuits, and a 6-litre format is always a statement of intent: large formats age more slowly, and Gevrey at village level rewards that patience generously. Expect the grape to do what it does best here — red cherry, violet, and that unmistakable iron-and-earth mineral quality that separates this village from its neighbours to the south.
The 2025 vintage in Burgundy was shaped by a warm, dry summer that brought concentration and ripe tannins without sacrificing the freshness that makes Pinot Noir sing.
Gevrey-Chambertin's village-level vineyards sit on the gentler lower slopes and the flat land east of the RN74, where soils are a mix of clay-limestone and alluvial deposits washed down from the escarpment above. The best village plots retain good drainage and enough limestone to give the wines their characteristic mineral edge. The climate here is continental, with warm summers and cold winters, and the village's position at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits means it captures both the warmth that ripens Pinot Noir fully and the cool nights that preserve its aromatic lift and acidity.
Gevrey-Chambertin is a village AOC on the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, and it carries more Grand Cru weight than almost any other commune in France — nine Grand Crus, including Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Bèze, sit within its boundaries. Village-level wines must be 100% Pinot Noir and cannot include fruit from Premier or Grand Cru parcels. Compared to neighbouring Morey-Saint-Denis, Gevrey tends to produce wines with more structure and grip; compared to Chambolle-Musigny to the south, it is earthier and more muscular. The village name alone on a label is a passport to some of Burgundy's most characterful Pinot Noir.
