Les Corbeaux sits at the northern end of Gevrey-Chambertin's premier cru roll call, a lieu-dit that tends to produce wines of real nerve and definition rather than the brooding power of its more famous southern neighbours.
From a double magnum, which slows the ageing process and preserves primary freshness longer than a standard bottle, this 2025 from Jane Eyre arrives with the kind of cool, precise Pinot character that makes Gevrey so endlessly compelling when it's on song.
Les Corbeaux lies at the northern tip of Gevrey-Chambertin's premier cru vineyards, at an elevation of roughly 280-320 metres on the mid-slope of the Côte de Nuits. The soils here are limestone-rich with a clay component, though generally thinner and stonier than those further south, which lends the wine its characteristic cool, mineral edge. The aspect is east-facing, meaning the vines catch morning sun and tend to ripen a touch later than warmer, more sheltered sites, contributing to the wine's natural freshness and structure.
Gevrey-Chambertin is the largest and arguably most famous commune on the Côte de Nuits, home to nine grands crus including the legendary Chambertin itself. Its premier crus are a varied bunch — some bordering grands crus in quality, others more variable depending on producer and plot. Les Corbeaux is one of the more northerly and less-discussed premier crus, but that relative anonymity often means better value for wines of genuine character. All Gevrey premier cru must be 100% Pinot Noir, with minimum 12% ABV and yields regulated under AOC rules.
