Les Corbeaux sits at the northern end of Gevrey-Chambertin's premier cru ladder, and it has a character all its own: less showy than Cazetiers, more angular than Lavaux, with a dark, stony tension that sets it apart from its neighbours. Jane Eyre — a producer whose name will raise eyebrows before it raises glasses — is making wines of genuine seriousness here, working with old vines and minimal intervention to let this lieu-dit speak for itself. In magnum, the 2025 vintage has the structural reserves to develop slowly and well over the coming decade.
We'd give this until at least 2030 before pulling the cork. Right now it's a closed fist of potential: iron, red fruit, and cool earth wound tightly together.
Les Corbeaux lies on the northern flank of Gevrey-Chambertin's premier cru band, on Bajocian limestone and clay soils that sit slightly cooler and firmer than those further south. The aspect tends northeast in parts, which slows ripening and preserves acidity, giving wines from this climat a leaner, more mineral character than the village's more celebrated southern crus. It is this tension between fruit and structure that makes Les Corbeaux worth watching.
Gevrey-Chambertin is Burgundy's most celebrated red wine commune, home to nine grands crus including Chambertin itself. Its premier crus are numerous and varied in character, ranging from the power of Lavaux Saint-Jacques to the elegance of Les Cazetiers. Les Corbeaux, tucked towards the Brochon border, is one of the lesser-discussed sites but rewards those who seek it out with wines of real precision and age-worthiness. All wines must be 100% Pinot Noir under AOC rules.
