Optimal drinking window: 2026 - 2028

Murphy Vineyards' Chardonnay is the unoaked kind — no barrel influence, no vanilla overlay, just the fruit speaking clearly for itself.

There's ripe peach and a hint of tropical warmth on the nose, while the palate is fresh and direct, carried by juicy acidity that keeps everything lively. The finish lingers longer than you might expect from a wine this breezy, which is a genuine point in its favour.

This is a wine built for immediacy, not patience. The bright fruit and fresh acidity that define it are at their most vibrant right now, in 2026. By 2028 it will still be perfectly pleasant, but the tropical lift and the acidity may soften.

Tasting Notes

AppearancePale straw with a light green tint and good clarity.

NoseFresh and fruit-forward, with ripe peach and a tropical lift — think mango and white nectarine rather than anything heavy or overripe. Clean and inviting without any oak to complicate things.

PalateLight to medium-bodied with a soft, round entry that quickly gives way to brighter, juicy acidity. The peach character carries through from the nose, and there's enough freshness to keep you reaching for another sip.

FinishPleasantly persistent for its weight, clean and fruit-driven to the end.

Overall impressionA no-nonsense, genuinely refreshing unoaked Chardonnay that delivers exactly what it promises.

FAQs

What does this wine taste like?

Fresh peach and tropical fruit on the nose, with a soft, juicy palate and lively acidity. There's no oak influence at all, so it's clean and direct — all about the fruit.

When should I drink it?

Now. This is a wine for immediate enjoyment. We'd aim to finish any bottles by 2028 at the latest.

What food works well with it?

Think light and fresh: grilled fish, seafood pasta, a simple chicken salad, or soft cheeses. It's also perfectly happy on its own as a pre-dinner glass.

How should I serve it?

Well chilled, at around 8-10°C. No need to decant — just open and pour straight into a standard white wine glass.

OUR GROWERS

Murphy Vineyards

Murphy Vineyards is an estate producer working with their own plantings, which gives them direct control over grape selection and quality from vine to bottle. Their focus is on varietal expression: letting the grape do the talking without heavy-handed winemaking intervention. Beyond that, verifiable detail on the producer is limited.
