Telmo Rodríguez is one of Spain's great viticultural missionaries, and Yjar is among his most personal statements: a wine made from old-vine Tempranillo and Garnacha grown at altitude in Rioja Alavesa, where the Basque Country's influence keeps things cool, structured, and decidedly un-modern. This is Rioja stripped of oak theatre, returning instead to the kind of wine that made the region famous long before it became synonymous with vanilla and easy extraction.

The 2020 shows all the precision and nerve you'd expect from a cooler vintage.
