The Gros family have been a dominant presence in Vosne-Romanée since 1830 and Michel, alongside sisters Anne and Anne-Francoise and brother Bernard, all of whom have eponymous domaines, represents the sixth generation. The jewel in Michel’s crown is the 2.12ha Clos des Réas, the only Premier Cru monopole in Vosne Romanée, owned by the family since 1860, a few metres from La Tache. Low yields, hand picking, total destemming and minimal racking are factors in the resultant style of Michel’s wines.
"Dark, rich, smoky red fruits, raspberries mostly, poke through the old forest and quarry perfume palate is brooding and concentration is impressive - this has plenty of muscles and a little puppy fat, is sleek yet ample, the tannins are well rounded and overall the mouthfeel is generous but has energy too " Tom Harrow, Wine Guru
"Tasted twice, either side of Christmas with consistent notes. Very pretty, floral notes with blue and dark berry fruit on the nose. Very pure fruit with a lovely clean, polished texture on the palate. The finish is long with a cool stony minerality. This is a classic Vosne with elan and class. Nick Daniell, Club Wine Buyer
