Collection: Trentham Estate

Trentham Estate is a proper family wine story, rooted in Australia’s Murray Darling and still firmly in the hands of the Murphy family. The Murphys arrived from Ireland in 1909 and eventually established vineyards at Trentham Cliffs in 1960, beside the Murray River. Some of the estate’s original Shiraz plantings date back to 1952.

Brothers Anthony and Patrick Murphy turned the family’s grape-growing business into Trentham Estate, making their first tiny six-tonne vintage in 1984 before establishing the winery in 1988. Anthony is still Managing Director and Chief Winemaker, while Patrick looks after the vineyards. Anthony has been making wine for decades and has picked up plenty of recognition along the way, including a Best in Show at the 2025 Decanter World Wine Awards.

Today, Trentham farms around 45 hectares and grows some 20 grape varieties. Alongside Shiraz, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, there’s a strong Mediterranean influence, with Vermentino, Nero d’Avola, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Maestri all finding a home here. The style is straightforward and fruit-driven: ripe, clean wines with plenty of character and, importantly, plenty of drinkability. It’s a family estate that has grown considerably, but still feels connected to the vineyards and the people who started it.
