Appassionata Estate started as a passion project for the acclaimed German winemaker Ernst Loosen. Driven by his lifelong love for the world’s great Pinot Noirs, Erni was drawn to Oregon nearly thirty years ago. Through numerous visits, during which he collected wines and made lasting friendships, he recognised the unique potential of the Willamette Valley.

The idea is simple: make a serious, ageworthy Pinot and then give it the time it needs. Fortissimo is held for at least 10 years before release, making the 2015 a particularly interesting bottle now.

Appassionata Estate

Ernst Loosen, the acclaimed German Riesling producer behind Dr. Loosen, launched Appassionata Estate as his Oregon passion project nearly three decades ago. Driven by his love for the world's great Pinot Noirs and recognising that Burgundian vineyards were prohibitively expensive, he was drawn to the Willamette Valley's unique potential. His philosophy centres on the belief that 'a great wine starts with the idea of a great wine', releasing wines only when they're beginning to show their true character after a decade of patience.
