Clos Marey-Monge Monopole, Château de Pommard, 2021

Château de Pommard's Clos Marey-Monge is one of Burgundy's great walled monopoles — 20 hectares of Pinot Noir sitting entirely within the estate's ownership, which is rarer than it sounds in a region where vineyards are typically carved into dozens of fragments.

The 2021 vintage is a study in Pommard's particular character: there's the weight and structure you'd expect from this appellation, but 2021's cool growing season has given the wine a brightness and precision that sets it apart from fleshier years. Iron, dark cherry, rose petal, and a stony undertow. Classic Pommard, but with a fresher, more tensile feel.
