"Deep red fruit and warm baked spices. Muscular tannins and a powerful core, showing great length and promise with aging."
Our note

Having been propelled in to the very front ranks of Burgundy’s most sought-after growers, for all Pierre remains as diffident and charming as ever. With ever increasing global demand for allocations, we never get as much of his Grands Crus as we’d like but the quality and value across the range is always exciting and we are delighted to have a good supply of Pierre’s various expressions of Gevrey-Chambertin.

What the critics say:

94/100Neal Martin, Vinous

"The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut Saint-Jacques 1er Cru is consistent with my tasting note from 12 months earlier. Vibrant red fruit on the nose, redcurrant and cranberry fruit, wilted rose petals and black pepper. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity, fine depth, vibrant red fruit with a lively spicy finish. This may well warrant a higher score in the future. Tasted at Domaine Duroché."

94/100 ****Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

"Another glowing purple colour. The bouquet is just a touch riper, more floral than the 2018, but it is not overdone. Full on strawberries on the palate, threatens lushness but stops short, but it does not quite have the grip at the back. Feels a little warmer. If this sounds like damning with faint praise, it is only because of the brilliance of some of the wines alongside. Tasted Nov 2021. *4 stars*"
