Villa Sparina's Rivalta is 100% Barbera that spent at least 14 months in barrique, then in the bottle.

Think black cherries, mint, pepper, vanilla and coffee - it's soft, rich and elegant, a very enjoyable drink. Add the beautiful amphora-shaped bottle, and you have the perfect gift alternatively impress your hosts at the next dinner party.

What the critics say:

92/100James Suckling

"A round and juicy red with plum, peach and orange-peel character. Medium body. Plenty of fruit and a delicious finish. Shows complexity and freshness. Drink now."

OUR GROWERS

Villa Sparina

This Monterotondo-based producer occupies one of Gavi's finest terroirs and does absolutely incredible things with Cortese and Barbera. These wines always catch people by surprise at tastings (alongside the fabulous Amphorae-shaped bottle...), and as James Suckling declares, if you "don't take Gavi seriously", you "obviously haven't tasted the wines of Villa Sparina"!
