Romain Guiberteau has quietly become one of the Loire's most compelling voices, crafting Chenin Blanc that captures all the mineral precision Saumur can deliver. This is Chenin stripped of fuss and focused on purity, where the chalky tuffeau soils speak directly through the glass.
We find this 2025 already singing with that distinctive Guiberteau tension between fruit and stone, ready now but built to evolve gracefully until 2038. This is Loire Chenin for those who appreciate finesse over power.
The vineyards sit on Saumur's distinctive tuffeau limestone, a soft, chalky stone that provides excellent drainage while retaining enough moisture for the vines. This porous limestone imparts a distinctive mineral backbone to the wines, creating that characteristic tension between fruit and stone. The continental climate with Atlantic influences allows for slow, even ripening, preserving the natural acidity that makes these wines so age-worthy.
Saumur sits at the heart of the Loire Valley's Chenin Blanc territory, where the grape finds ideal expression on chalky tuffeau soils. Unlike its more famous neighbour Vouvray, Saumur tends to produce drier styles with more obvious mineral character.
