Resurrected by life-long Burgundy lover Mark O’Connell in 2011 and our dear friend Pierre Meurgey, Domaine Clos de la Chapelle is headquartered at the Chateau de Bligny, owned by Pierre and no less than Dominique Lafon. The talent behind the new Domaine is considerable, and the wines are already getting rave reviews from the likes of Allen Meadows (Burghound), Neal Martin & Jasper Morris.

We were so impressed by the wines after tasting the 2022s and were surprised to hear that they had little presence in the UK, so it is a real pleasure to offer these wines.

"A narrow strip of vines on the northern border of Clos de la Bousse d’Or, which it is presumed to have originally been part of. Raspberry, red plum, rose petal, grilled herbs, and a sweet, medicinal note on the nose. Perfumed, supple palate, sits high in the cheekbones after initial red fruit sorbet attack, with elegant, fine-boned tannins and liquoricey, hoisin finish."
Tom Harrow, Head Wine Guru

What the critics say:

92-95/100Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

"A lightly purple in colour, with fresher dark red berries on the nose. There is a graceful sense of harmony to this wine which fills out the middle of the palate very nicely. Strawberries and ripe raspberries, with a structure built on fine-grained tannins and just enough acidity. Drink from 2029-2037. Tasted: October 2023. ****."

91-94/100Allen Meadows, Burghound

"Much like the Carelle, the expressive nose is airy, cool and super fresh with its essence of red berry, spice and rose petal scents. The wonderfully sleek, precise and stony middleweight flavors possess a lovely sense of underlying tension along with a gorgeous mouthfeel, all wrapped in a firm, youthfully austere and impressively long finale. This is a classic Volnay of lace and grace. *Sweet spot* *Outstanding* 2032+"

Domaine Clos de la Chapelle

An exciting new addition to the portfolio, Domaine de Clos de la Chapelle is a fascinating revival of an old Burgundy domaine based around the eponymous, historic Volnay 1er Cru Monopole Clos de la Chapelle. Even trailblazing chemist Louis Pasteur was a huge fan back in the 1800s, placing a regular order for several dozen bottles of Clos de la Chapelle for his personal enjoyment.
