Indaba Wines is a South African wine brand built around a simple idea: wine should bring people together. The name Indaba, pronounced “in-dah-bah,” comes from Zulu and refers to a gathering or “meeting of the minds”—an apt name for wines designed to be shared.

Founded in 1996, as South Africa entered its new democratic era, Indaba set out to combine quality, value and social responsibility. Its grapes are sourced from vineyards across the Western Cape, including Stellenbosch, Robertson, Wellington and the Breede River Valley, working with experienced family growers across these regions.

The winemaking is overseen by Bruwer Raats, one of South Africa’s most respected winemakers, who has been involved with Indaba since 2008 and became full-time winemaker in 2010. His approach is straightforward: produce fresh, fruit-driven, food-friendly wines that offer plenty of character without taking themselves too seriously.

Sustainability is central to the brand. Indaba is Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) certified, reflecting responsible practices in the vineyard, cellar and packaging. The brand also has a long-standing commitment to education in South African wineland communities through the Indaba Foundation, which supports early-childhood-development teacher training in under-resourced areas.
