Domaine Pascal Prunier-Bonheur Beaune Les Prévoles 2016 comes from the bottom of the slope with deeper soils and shows a prettier side of Beaune. There are bright aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, and violets with notes of earth beneath. The palate is on the lighter side for the appellation, showing tart cherry, raspberry, and stones framed by fine-grained tannins. This is elegant, with a good persistence to its finish.
The vineyard of Les Prévoles lies away from the main road but beneath the premiers crus, just to the south of the town of Beaune. It consistently produces good wines, and this vintage is certainly no exception.
The fifth generation of a winegrowing family, Pascal Prunier-Bonheur took over the estate in 1983; it now operates 6 hectares of vines spread across Saint-Romain in Beaune through to Auxey-Duresses, Monthélie, Meursault and Pommard. By combining tradition and modernity Pascal wants to offer "a genuine product, the result of hard work without pretense and without excessive ambition." The result is a selection of high quality wines at very reasonable prices.
