After a stunning showing at last week’s Icons tasting, it is with great excitement we bring you a special barrel project from the great Cheval Blanc, with 2023 Petit Cheval Blanc released today.
The 2023 is the 6th vintage to be released to the market, with a growing reputation leading Colin Hay to declare it “rightly deserves its place amongst the greatest white wines of the region”. The 96 points awarded by Jane Anson is her highest score for Petit Cheval Blanc, noting “this wine is now seriously finding its feet and setting itself apart.” Decanter’s Georgia Hindle agrees “this is the most impressive” after a vertical tasting going back to 2018, leaving a glowing 97-point review.
As a Syndicate member, you’ll also enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime lunch at Château Cheval Blanc with a guest. This is the kind of insider access collectors dream of, offering a rare chance to taste and explore alongside the team that makes it.
Petit Cheval Blanc comes from a several hectare plot re-grafted (retaining the older vine’s root system) in 2008 to Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon after detailed soil analysis when Cheval Blanc purchased neighbouring Ch. La Tour du Pin. Pierre-Oliver Clouet says of the style that they aim to avoid the pungent pyrazine notes of Sauvignon Blanc to create a wine of complexity over intensity. Maturation sees 18 months prior to bottling in large oak vessels, some of which are new, producing “very taut and linear, almost Zen-like, minerally Sauvignon Blanc” – Neal Martin.
