It’s always a pleasure to see Jane – her wines are never less than extremely personable and engaging and 2019 is no exception.
On arrival we learned she had just received a second star from the RVF (equivalent of the Michelin Guide for wine) – which is justly deserved. Jane suggests her 19s are styled nearer to the bigger 18s than the lighter 17s but with higher acid levels and thus are potentially longer lived.
"From an organically-farmed vineyard with a mix of clay and stones at the foot of the Montagne de Beaune, close to Savigny-les-Beaune. This sees little less new oak than the Savigny (one barrel out of six, rather than one of out four) but also has 30% whole bunches. Bright, high-toned red currant and cranberry aromas, with a hint of pressed flowers and even light touches of pepper and cedar. Palate is quite savoury, masculine (Jane’s description) and concentrated with darker but still sweetly ripe fruits, more spice and rich, salty tannins."

What the critics say:
"From the Savigny-lès-Beaune side, this parcel is certified organic, from vines over 50 years old. 30% whole bunch, 15% new oak. 2,000 bottles and 25 magnums made. Pale crimson. Very fruity nose with crispness, a hint of raspberry and hugely polished tannins that catch up with the taster only on the very end. Dry finish. One of her sweeter wines."
