Drawn from the Fahrlay parcel of the great Marienburg vineyard, this Riesling Reserve is a striking expression of blue slate terroir. The 2017 vintage shows incredible precision: ripe stone fruit, quince, and citrus peel layered with smoke, spice, and that unmistakable salty-mineral edge that Fahrlay always delivers. The palate is powerful and tightly wound, with a depth that will unfurl beautifully over time, balanced by vibrant acidity and a long, stony finish. This is serious, age-worthy Mosel Riesling, the kind of wine that rewards patience as much as it impresses in youth.
Clemens and Rita Busch are among the Mosel’s most respected growers, pioneers of organic and biodynamic viticulture long before it became fashionable. They’ve worked their steep Marienburg vineyards without herbicides since the 1970s, focusing on old vines, natural fermentation, and minimal intervention. Over the past three decades, their dedication has earned them a cult following, with wines that capture the Mosel’s essence in its purest, most expressive form.
What the critics say:
"The 2017 Marienburg Fahrlay Reserve is very deep, pure, complex and intensely flinty on the slatey and slightly gamey nose that reveals ripe and concentrated, very elegant mirabelle fruit with iodine notes of crushed slate. Full-bodied, lush and intense on the palate, this is a creamy-textured yet crystalline, refined and saline, very elegant and complex Riesling with a sustainable and highly stimulating finish. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022."
