Teyssier is a solid performer, gracing the 1st class lounges of several airlines, the choice of a Grand Prix or two, and recommended by critics like The Wall Street Journal's Will Lyons and Master of Wine Tim Atkin.
What the critics say:
"The 2016 Teyssier has turned out beautifully. Soft, floral and silky, the 2016 Teyssier is a terrific introduction to the vintage. Sweet dark cherry, plum, mocha, espresso and spice are nicely lifted in this suave, supple Saint-Émilion. Bright, floral notes appear on the finish to add perfume and lift. The 2016 is even more impressive than it was from barrel. Even better, it is one of the more modestly priced Saint-Émilions in the market, with a level of production that also makes it relatively easy to source. Once again, Jonathan Maltus and his team have done a fabulous job with their most visible wine. I would prefer to drink the 2016 over the next handful of years."
"A Jonathan Maltus has begun working with the increasingly popular Thomas Duclos for Chateau Teyssier, and either this or generosity of the vintage, has resulted in potentially one of the best wines from this estate ever. The harvest was from September 20th until October 4th for the Merlot, and the Cabernet Franc was picked between October 8th and the 12th. The alcohol is 14.5%, the pH 3.53. It has a lovely nose, expressive, pure, bright and open, with perfumed red plums and a chalky freshness giving it a sense of purity and lift. A serious. broad and textural palate, rich and filled with spiced plums fruit, with a peppery energy through the middle. There is plenty of grip, velvety and lightly grained, and bright acidity as well. Substantial, broad, convincing, with a chalky perfume, this is indeed potentially one of the best vintages yet for Teyssier..."
"Bright summer berry compote and light pastry notes. The palate has a plush, ripe and open-knit feel. Drink now."
"A wine that’s going to be an incredible value, the 2020 Château Teyssier offers up a deep ruby/purple color as well as impressive red and blue fruits intermixed with hints of flowers and earth. Playing in the medium-bodied end of the spectrum, it has wonderful purity, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. A pretty, elegant wine that brings beautiful fruit, it’s well worth seeking out."
