Pierre Meurgey, a fourth-generation winemaker, is now bottling remarkable wines under his own name and is just beginning to gain recognition.
His father, Henri, was a highly respected courtier and oenologist in the Côte d'Or, admired by all growers. Pierre, known for crafting high-quality wines that are designed to age well, is definitely also a winemaker to watch.
His Savigny-Les-Beaune Les Bas Liards is a well-made Burgundy with good aging potential.
What the critics say:
"Entirely destemmed this year. Medium purple not quite so deep. Solid dense, dark rich fruit, a little more sombre than the Côte de Nuits-Villages, some plum notes, a little coffee, impressive depth of fruit, slight dry at the finish but the fruit returns confidently behind. This last feature inclines me to give the benefit of the doubt."
