Pierre Meurgey is a rising star in Burgundy, blending tradition with modern techniques to craft precise and terroir-driven wines. His focus is on showcasing the nuanced characteristics of each appellation, from the Mâconnais to the Côte de Beaune.

"This single-vineyard wine from old vines (65-95 years) offers salinity and minerality, with fresh lime and pithy citrus on the palate. Fermented in large barrels with no new oak, it’s a precise, well-balanced wine with a sapid finish."
Our note

The 2023 vintage was particularly noteworthy, beginning with uncertainty due to a sudden heatwave in early September. Thanks to early harvesting, Pierre achieved balanced ripeness and avoided overripeness, producing wines with finesse, vibrant fruit, and excellent ageing potential. Both reds and whites are approachable young yet structured.

What the critics say:

89/100Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

"This comes from the usual plot, Le Mont, but Pierre no longer takes all of it, which means he can choose exactly what he wants. Mid lemon yellow, the nose slightly knocked back by the bottling but still showing the expressive sunshine of the appellation. Very vinous on the palate, but the saline mineral thread provides the backbone. An Attractive Vire-Clessé for the medium term. All demi-muid this year. Tasted Oct 2024."

89/100Neal Martin, Vinous

"The 2023 Viré-Clessé Vieilles Vignes comes from 65- to 90-year-old vines in Clessé, matured in used 450- and 600-liter barrels. This is quite elegant on the nose, mixing Golden Delicious scents with lime flower and touches of sea spray. The palate has commendable weight. It doesn't have the complexity of other cuvées, but there is fine weight with a sapid, bright finish and a twist of white pepper and lemon rind on the aftertaste. This is worth seeking out. "
