Our visits to de Montille get (thankfully) longer each year as we continue to deepen our relationship with Etienne, Brian and the team.

We can’t think of another address in Burgundy that has such strength in its domaine whites and Cote de Beaune reds (and the highly sought after Vosne Romanée ‘Malconsorts’ cherry on top) and we are delighted to carry a good selection from across their portfolio.

What the critics say:

90-92/100Neal Martin, Vinous

"The 2021 Volnay Les Champans Premier Cru has a very attractive bouquet with brambly, red berry fruit, white pepper and sous-bois scents, nicely focused with a subtle garrigues note. The palate is medium-bodied with fine depth, crisp and lively with a healthy dash of white pepper. Well-focused and harmonious, this is a fine Volnay Champans."

OUR GROWERS

Domaine de Montille

Domaine de Montille was founded in 1730, though it wasn’t until the 1950s that Hubert de Montille made his mark on the Burgundian scene after inheriting 2.5 hectares in 1947. From there Hubert grew the domaine by adding prized parcels in Pommard and Puligny. A true Burgundy legend, his terroir-driven, estate-bottled approach to winemaking was visionary at the time when 90% of the region’s wines were being sold to negociants.

The Domaine is now in its ninth generation under the stewardship of sibling duo Étienne & Alix, who have largely remained true to their father’s vision of creating elegant, pure and balanced wines. In fact Étienne was instrumental in pushing the sustainability of the Domaine by abandoning all chemical fertilisers and herbicides in 1985 and fully transitioning to biodynamic farming in 2005.
