A stand-out example of what old-vine fruit can deliver: bright red berries and mulberry jump from the glass, threaded with wild herbs, subtle spice and a whisper of earth. On the palate it’s supple yet focused — juicy fruit balanced by fresh acidity and fine, sandy tannins that carry through to a long, savoury finish.
A versatile, drink-now Grenache that’s just as happy with roast lamb, charcuterie or spiced Mediterranean fare.
Yalumba is Australia’s oldest family-owned winery, established in 1849 and still run by the Hill-Smith family. Known for careful site selection and a willingness to champion varieties outside the mainstream, Yalumba nurtures its old bush vines with respect, letting low yields and pure fruit shine.
What the critics say:
"Red cherry, strawberry and dried herbs. Juicy bramble, red plum and cherry on the palate. Full-bodied, with peppery tannins, tobacco spice and a hint of leather. Finishes with soft red fruits and delicate rose aromas."
"The 2024 Yalumba Samuel’s Collection Bush Vine Grenache shows just how brightly Grenache shines in the Barossa. Produced from low yielding, old bush vine fruit – over 100 years old in some cases – it’s smooth, supple, sweet-yet-savoury and succulent with the softest of tannins. It seems awfully cheap."
