We were recently offered a tiny parcel of mature Hospices de Nuits Burgundy from our dear friend Romain Taupenot of Domaine Taupenot-Merme — one of the greatest names in Nuits-Saint-Georges. A couple of sample bottles made their way to our HQ, and they were excellent.
"A deep nose, briar, cedar, fig, damson, iodine, anise, balsa, rosemary, red earth, iron, pot pourri, with sweeter kirsh and cocoa notes developing around a medicinal core.
Sweet, evolved red plums and strawberries, chalky acidity, savoury brick dust tannins, secondary wave of smoky minerals hits the mid-palate and pushes to a lightly saline finish."
