“Querciabella stands head and shoulders above any other estate in Chianti Classico. It’s as simple as that.” Antonio Galloni.
Querciabella is located in the heart of Chianti with some of the highest altitude vineyards in the Chianti area. The high altitude combined with the estate’s uncompromising focus on quality in all aspects of the production results in expressive, complex wines with remarkable elegance, a lovely freshness and great aging potential.
Querciabella has long been one of our favourite growers in Tuscany and the estate’s Chianti Classico Reserva is a benchmark for the region hence has a continual listing on our Sommelier Selection. But they do so much more than just make exceptional Chianti, as are behind the quintessential Tuscan white, Batàr.
It’s name an homage to Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru, Batàr's relationship to Burgundy is not just nominal, having been made from Chardonnay clones taken from the Côte-d'Or itself and then blended with Pinot Bianco clones from Henri Gouges vineyards in Nuits Saint Georges, the most famous domaine of the village.
What the critics say:
"Querciabella's 2015 Batàr (Chardonnay/Pinot Bianco) is very delicate and restrained, especially within the context of the year. Lemon confit, white flowers, orange peel and mint all develop nicely in the glass, but it is the wine's persistence that stands out most. The 2015 is one of the most polished, gracious Batàrs I can remember tasting."
