1x75cl Chambertin Grand Cru, 2023: £2,500 £2,400 IB

"An even imperial purple. Broad shoulders from the start. Leave it a minute in the glass for the oak to settle down. The wine is only just beginning to show itself, but the massive structure will support the noble deep red fruit magnificently. The complete sense of harmony has been maintained. Just waiting for the fruit to return after spitting and here it comes. Drink from 2035-2045. Tasted Nov 2024."

"The 2023 Chambertin Grand Cru has an exquisite, graceful bouquet with pure black cherries, raspberry and violet scents that soar from the glass. It shows exceptional delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and very good weight, more muscular than the Clos Saint-Jacques, with firm grip on the finish: This will require time, but there is huge potential."

1x75cl Gevrey-Chambertin 'Clos Saint Jacques' Premier Cru, 2023: £1,080 IB

"A much denser purple. Coming after the Ruchottes, the Clos St-Jacques is like chalk and cheese, yet these are two great wines. This is much more structured, and while the fruit at the front of the palate is impressive enough, there arrives a wealth of darker berries behind, but no feeling of heat. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Nov 2024."

"The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a more intense bouquet than the Ruchottes with blood-orange-infused red fruit, exquisite definition and supreme focus. The palate is medium-bodied with finely sculpted tannins, a little spicier than Rousseau's other cuvees, with fine weight toward the finish. Touches of black pepper and dark chocolate linger temptingly. Superb."
