"Light-footed and refined, driven by fresh red fruit. Bright acidity gives lift and clarity without ever overpowering the wine’s natural balance."
Stewart Pryce, Honest Grapes Wine Club Manager
Domaine Henri Magnien continues to prove why Charles Magnien is firmly established as one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s rising stars. The 2024 vintage is a clear success here, with exceptional definition between cuvées and a masterclass in terroir expression.
The classics shine as ever: Cazetiers and Lavaux St-Jacques deliver depth, structure, and serious ageing potential, while Estournelles St-Jacques offers a more lifted, elegant expression. But the real curiosity is Gevrey-Chambertin XV – a one-off bottling born from reduced yields, blending fruit from 15 different lieux-dits into a remarkably coherent and charming whole. It’s not a style we’ll see again, and it comes highly recommended.
This is Magnien firing on all cylinders, with wines that reward both immediate enjoyment and long-term patience.
What the critics say:
"The 2024 Gevrey-Chambertin Estournelles Saint-Jacques 1er Cru was showing a little more reduction on the nose compared to the Les Champeaux: darker fruit, hints of black tea and leather. The palate is medium-bodied with fluid tannins, quite harmonious but the acidity has a citrus element that lends this Gevrey sharpness and tension. Quite penetrating on the finish-in a good way. This is extremely promising and defies the vintage."
