Boizel’s Cuvée Joyau 2013 is a proper Champagne for those who like depth and detail. It’s built around 55% Pinot Noir from Mailly, Aÿ and Chigny-les-Roses, and 45% Chardonnay from Avize, Oger and Cuis—all Grand and Premier Cru sites with serious pedigree. Only the first pressing is used, and a small portion (about 10%) spent time in old oak to give extra texture and complexity. After a decade resting in the family’s historic cellars on the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay, the wine shows a beautiful balance of richness from the Pinot and finesse from the Chardonnay.

Joyau was first created in 1961 under René Boizel, and today it remains the house’s prestige cuvée. The Boizel family has been making Champagne here since 1834.

What the critics say:

95/100James Suckling

"Saline, racy and elegant, this shows aromas and flavors of buttered brioche, wildflower honey, peaches and a hint of salted caramel. It’s medium-bodied, long and linear, with lively acidity and very fine, seamless bubbles. Long and saline. 55% pinot noir and 45% chardonnay. 3.5 g/L dosage. Disgorged November 2024. Drink or hold."

94/100Georgina Hindle, Decanter

"Buttery toasted nose, lovely complexity of aromas. hazlent, caramel and some confit orange. Succulent and juicy, really mouth watering, bright and piercing, great acidity with a soft sugary lemon aspect. Ends crisp and clean, so delicious. I love the orange and sweet lemon that lingers along with some lovely minerality - slate and wet stones. Just has the most lovely depth on the mid palate that really elongates the wine and counters the acidity. Lovely stuff. Dosage 3.5g/L. 10% aged in big casks. Director and winemaker Florent Roques-Boizel also with Lionel Roques Boizel and Isabelle Tellier."
