Henri Giraud Ésprit Nature Champagne has replaced the Esprit Brut. The 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay blend has 50% reserve wines, matured in small casks made of oak from the forest of Argonne and in ovoid (egg-shaped) vats.
"The Esprit meanwhile is crafted to the same, meticulous standards as Giraud's top cuvées, yet in a more approachable, forward style, and the latest release is absolutely stunning."
Tom, Head Wine Guru
Champagne Henri Giraud is the oldest Champagne house still owned by its founding family – the Giraud-Hémart family has farmed vines at Aÿ since 1625. However, it is only since current head Claude Giraud took over that the wines have been released under the family name. The flagship release is the rich, voluptuous Fût de Chêne, a Pinot Noir-dominant Champagne blend.
What the critics say:
"Right from the beginning, this has an enchanting nose of red apple, raspberry and candied orange peel. But as it aerates in the glass, notes of chocolate and sushi ginger emerge. Tons of depth and structure for a Brut NV, the creaminess reining in the power. The long, saline finish pulls you back for more. A cuvée of 3/4 pinot noir and 1/4 chardonnay. Based on the 2016 vintage with just over a third of perpetual reserve (solera system). From organically grown grapes. Drink now."
"Esprit Nature is the perfect entry-level Champagne for lovers of vinous and dense Champagne. With notes of orchard fruits, spices and almonds, it offers its full scope in the mouth with a delicious texture. 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, based on 2016 and with 50% reserve wines."
