Situated in Pomerol, Domaine de L'Eglise produces refined and elegant wines that reflect the unique clay and gravel soils of the appellation. The vineyard, sitting on the famed Pomerol plateau close to both Petrus and Saint-Pierre, is planted mostly to Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc, which gives the wine its supple richness and elegant lift.
What the critics say:
"Black berries and cherries with flowers and orange peel. Crushed stone. Some graphite. Iron. Flint stone. It’s medium- to full-bodied. Firm and polished tannins. Very typical and classic. Best ever? 96% merlot and 4% cabernet franc. Needs four or five years to come around. Try after 2028."
"Inky plum colour, concentrated and confident, a ton of signature Pomerol - grilled blueberry and blackberry, gingerbread and coffee. Great stuff, packed full of expansive power through the mid palate before contracting with bitter chocolate and firm tannins on the close of play. 7ha. Gravel clay soils, 45-50 years average age of the vines. Enjoyable range of Casteja wines here, with terroir signature - Batailley speaks of Pauillac gravels, Trottevieille of St Emilion limestone and this one of Pomerol clay."
