The 2017 Chevalier-Montrachet from Domaine Alain Chavy is a superb expression of this Grand Cru vineyard, combining power with finesse. Aromas of citrus, pear, and white peach mingle with floral notes and a touch of flint, while the palate is structured and precise, showing fine acidity, subtle oak, and a deep mineral core that drives a long, elegant finish.
The Chavy family has been in Puligny for almost 200 years but the story begins much later in 1976 when Gérard Chavy decided to stop selling his grapes to négociants and bottle his wine under his own label. In 2003 Gerard’s sons, Alain and Jean-Louis, decided to split the estate following artistic differences and started their own Domaines. Alain Chavy’s 7 Hectares covers some of the most prestigious Puligny Premier Crus and with a restrained style that focuses on purity of fruit, has quickly become a jewel in the heart of the appellation. With a hands-off approach, and a focus on freshness, Alain producers wines of purity, precision and tension.
What the critics say:
"The 2017 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, which is as usual, an exchange with Jean-Michel Chartron, has a crisp and precise bouquet with touches of yellow flower and crushed stone complementing the citrus fruit. The palate is very well balanced with beautifully integrated oak (one-year old rather than new), leading to a precise, almost Meursault-like finish. Superb."
