In the search for the purest expression of the identity of Finca Piedra Infinita vineyard, Sebastián and his team reached this small plot of just 0.93 hectares. Planted at 1,100 meters in the highest part of the Tunuyán River’s alluvial fan, the vineyard reflects the unmistakable character of Paraje Altamira. Beneath the vines lies an endless bed of stones and massive granite rocks coated in calcareous material—a complexity found only at the very edge of the Andes.
Here, Malbec thrives on soils made up entirely of alluvial stones wrapped in chalky deposits, producing a wine that is as unique and unrepeatable as the site itself.
Zuccardi’s story began in the 1960s, when Alberto “Tito” Zuccardi planted vines not to make wine but to demonstrate an irrigation system he had devised. From that practical start, the family has built one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most admired and terroir-driven projects. Today, under Sebastián Zuccardi, the focus is entirely on place—expressing altitude, soil, and climate with honesty and clarity.
As Sebastián puts it: “We are not seeking to make the world’s best wines, but the deepest and purest expression of our place.” These are wines that can stand alongside the finest anywhere, yet they also act as a lens into the stunning, brutal, and breathtaking landscapes of the Uco Valley.
What the critics say:
"Maximum precision” is Sebastián Zuccardi’s description of this world-class Malbec, sourced from a small parcel of very poor, limestone influenced soils within the Piedra Infinita vineyard. Tasting it is like licking a stone at first: chalky, tangy and mouth-wateringly fresh. Entirely unwooded, it has aromas of jarilla and sweet spices and a palate of thrilling minerality, with bramble, redcurrant and pomegranate flavours, fine, granular tannins and a finish that lingers like a happy memory on the palate. 2026-40"
"A stunning view into the bones of Piedra Infinita, the 2021 Finca Piedra Infinita Supercal comes from a .93-hectare plot filled with alluvial stones covered in calcium carbonate. It was fermented with whole clusters in unlined concrete tanks and underwent a 12-month élevage. It opens with a transparent, morphing and agile bouquet of dried flowers and crushed stones, presenting an overall brighter profile than the Gravascal and Piedra Infinta bottlings. The palate features a racy, sleek and lifted texture, offering the most bracing and linear focus of the Zuccardi lineup without sacrificing three-dimensionality. It concludes with a searingly stony finish with a snappy attack that surges with additional minerality while remaining remarkably complete despite its angular nature. While the other two Piedra Infinita bottlings are richer and more seductive in texture, the Supercal stands out for its striking minimalism and pristine, dexterous profile."
